When in town for Art Basel or Art Miami, there is never a shortage of amazing things to do. From the fairs to the parties, finding time is more difficult than filling it up. True as that may be though, one thing we never miss is Wynwood Walls. If you have never been to Wynwood, but will be in Miami this December for the fairs, keep reading to learn why you will definitely want to stop by for a visit.
About Wynwood Walls
Miami is a city full of life and Wynwood Walls is the center of all that energy. Wynwood Walls sits on NW 2nd Avenue in Wynwood, Miami.
Wynwood Walls stated in 2003 when graffiti artist Tony Goldman first turned it into an outdoor canvas for artists to paint on.
Since then Wynwood Walls has gone on to become the home to some of the world’s best street artists with over 50 artists representing 16 countries, covering over 80,000 square feet of walls.
Famous Artists at the Walls
The walls feature artists such as Os Gemeos, Invader, Kenny Scharf, FUTURA 2000, Dearraindrop, FAILE, BÄST, Shepard Fairey, Aiko, Kenny Scharf, and many more.
Of the most famous murals is by Kenny Scharf. It is the mural that greets visitors as they enter and is just a taste of the amazing work to come.
The Wynwood Arts District
The Wynwood Walls are found within the broader Wynwood Arts District, which has become a haven for artists and creatives alike. Aside from the walls, the district has grown to include funky art galleries, craft breweries, chic clothing boutiques, stylish bistros, and late-night bars. The businesses can typically be found in converted warehouses creating a hip feel that Miami is known for.
Wynwood in December
Wynwood has become a hub for artists and galleries to come together in one place during art fair time where they can share their work with new audiences while enjoying an escape from some of Miami’s crazier party scenes that take over the city every December.
So if you are looking for an escape from the craziness, stop by Wynwood Walls. Who knows, you might find the Artmatcher team there sharing the good word about our app that week.
