Medieval art covers an immense range of time, place and artistic styles, encompassing over 1,000 years of European art (500 A.D. through the 14th century). It also covers certain periods of art in Northern Africa and Western Asia. The various styles include Early Christian, Byzantine, Viking, Gothic, Pre-Romanesque and Romanesque.
