Renaissance (French for “rebirth”) refers to the revival of art, architecture and literature in Europe during the14th to the 17th centuries. The movement began in Florence, Italy, and sought to restore the ideas of classical Roman and Greek culture. It was a welcome progression from the dark times of the Middle Ages which saw little progress in the arts or science. The most prominent artists of this time were Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael.
