Romanesque refers to a European style of art and architecture that emulates the classic Roman style. It spanned the late 11th 12th, and part of the 13th century. The architecture is large scale, with solid, thick walls, Roman arches, and barrel vaults. The art was dominated by Christian imagery and included sculpture, murals, embroidery and illuminated manuscripts.
