El Techo de la Ballena is a non-profit organization that works to improve the lives of children and young people in poverty in Latin America.
El Techo de la Ballena was founded in 2004 by a group of university students in Chile who were concerned about the growing problem of child poverty in Latin America. The organization’s name comes from a Spanish saying which means ‘the roof of the whale’, and refers to the idea that everyone deserves a place to live with dignity.
Since its inception, El Techo de la Ballena has expanded to operate in seven countries across Latin America: Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. The organization works on a variety of projects aimed at improving the lives of children and young people living in poverty, such as providing access to education, healthcare, and housing.
El Techo de la Ballena is funded primarily through donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations. The organization is also supported by a number of volunteers who give their time to help with various projects.
