Fluxus is a Latin word meaning “flow”. Fluxus is an international and interdisciplinary community of artists, composers, designers and poets that engages in experimental and interdisciplinary work.
Fluxus is often described as “the most radical and experimental art movement of the postwar era”, with roots in Dadaism and Surrealism, but also in jazz and avant-garde music, literature, philosophy, and the visual arts. The name “Fluxus” was coined by George Maciunas in 1961 to describe a community of artists, many of whom had been associated with composer John Cage’s Experimental Composer-Performer group on Cage’s invitation.
